Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out, and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late
My Personal Review: The Housemaid By: Freida McFadden
Here I am again, writing a review for a book I never thought I would pick up on my own. The Housemaid is definitely a thriller, I was pleasantly surprised that, as someone with anxiety, it didn’t trigger any overwhelming feelings for me.
There were moments when the content was a bit challenging to read, but for some reason, this book had me so captivated that I couldn’t put it down—and I have no regrets about it.
There are sections in the story that involve a character being locked in a room, which adds a twisted element, so be mindful if that’s a sensitive topic for you.
I want to keep things light and give you a sense of the book without revealing too much. I’d rate this book a solid 4.5 stars, which is significant for me since this isn’t my usual genre. I typically gravitate toward romance novels with a bit of heat. However, “The Housemaid” was incredibly gripping. Almost immediately, you find yourself eager to discover what happens next. You might suspect where the story is headed, but the twist will catch you off guard!
I loved how the book ended—it left me wanting more and feeling empowered by the main character. You can sense that the next book ( The Housemaid’s Secret) will follow a similar storyline but with its own unique twist.
If you’ve seen this book trending on TikTok (like I did), I highly recommend picking it up; it’s a fantastic read. Since I have anxiety and recently finished “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah—another book outside my usual genre—I plan to dive into “Twisted Love,” a popular romance series, before returning to the second book in “The Housemaid” series.
